Edge Too ( Killion)

FSV Produced: 1
FSV Years: 1972

Location:
from TeamFRD posting an email from: Ed Givler - edgetoo@juno.com

Jim Killion designed and built the car in 1972. Jim was the Formula Vee Nat champ at Daytona in 1970 and won the FV race with the 24hr race in 1971. He also won a Canadian race by using an extra 1.5 gal fuel tank that eliminated the need for a pit stop!  He raced at The Nurburgring with Bill Scott and others but had a clutch failure.)

Peter Dandridge, a former Brit of the Sterling Moss era, fabricated the car at his business, Atomic Welding in Cambridge MA. Ed Priebe also assisted in the fabrication.

The car was run in IMSA in 1972 with log book # 72SV34. Due to an oiling problem, rod bearings lasted about 25 min. This led to missing qualifying and starting in the back of the pack. While he quickly made his way up through the pack, the bearings would fail before the end of the race. He gave up at the end of the season to pursue a less risky enterprise: speculating in the gold market. The car was stored in a garage at Warren Ogden's for a year and then moved out under a tree for a year!

I acquired the car in 1975, naming it The EDGE-TOO, corrected the oiling problem, and ran it in limited events that year. In 1976, it won the first 4 Nationals. It was leading in the next national when I ran off the road and bent the suspension. In the next Pro FSV race, an A arm nut fell off sending it into a bank. (Tommy Thompson won the division and later died at Langhorn.)

Throughout the next 25 years, it won numerous races and was at or under track records at most tracks. It was NE Div Champ in 1980 and was invited to the runoffs numerous times, competing in 1978. It has most likely won more national points than any other single FSV and still holds the record FTD at a Corvettes of Massachusetts event at NHIS.
