Markus Hotz had been building and driving race cars since the late 60's and after the founding of Horag in 1971 construction and maintenace of cars was kept and extended as a main activity. Horag Formula Super Vees entered numerous international races with drivers Harald Ertl, Bertil Roos and many others.

In the 1970s, Horag provides and manages u.a. the vehicles of Herbert Müller, Fredy Lienhard, Eugen Strähl and Clay Regazzoni.

From 1987 Horag turned to the construction of CanAm sportscars for the INTERSERIE Super Sports Car Cup. Based on F3000 chassis a number of successful cars were built, equipped with VW / Audi turbo or 3.5lt F1 engines.

Horag CanAms took the INTERSERIE overall victory in 1995, 96 and 97.

  • 1971: Foundation of Horag Hotz Racing AG in Baden and presentation of the HAS4 Formel Super V.
  • 1972: New model HAS5 Super V
  • 1973: Jody Scheckter tests the HAS5 at Silverstone and sets a new unofficial lap record.
  • 1974: HAS6 Super V & HAS7 Formula 2 The Horag Super V are used successfully in the 70s internationally, among the drivers include u.a. Harald Ertl, Bertil Roos or Josef Kaufmann. At the Formula Super V frame race for the Grand Prix at Zandvoort
  • 1975: Horag becomes official March dealership. Markus Hotz becomes Swiss champion on March BMW Formula 2 in 1975 and 1977.
  • 1978: Horag develops with March the 79V Formula Super V.
  • 1980: Horag becomes March Semi factory team in Formula 2 European Championship with Bernard Devaney.
  • 1981: Riders in the EM F2 team are u.a. Marc Surer, Clay Regazzoni, Stanley Dickens and Johnny Ceccotto. First CanAm car based on March 801 For the Interseries.

In 1995 the Horag-Lista Team entered the IMSA series with a Ferrari 333Sp with drivers Fredy Lienhard and Didier Theys. They took the first win of a F333SP in Europe at Zolder 1997 and finished 2nd overall in the ISRS International Sports Racing Series 1998, behind ex-grand prix drivers Collard/Sospiri, also with a Ferrari F333SP.

Additionally for 2001/02, Markus Hotz was active as a chief-engineer for Sports Racing Team Sweden, run by former Le Mans 24 hrs. winner Stanley Dickens. The team won the SR2 title of the 2001 FIA sportscar championship.
A few years ago, one of the two March 762 F2 cars of the Horag-maintained 1976 Lista Racing Team was recovered and fully restored. Now looking and running as fabulous as it did back then, it is used in historical events.
Markus Hotz Jody Scheckter Horag Super Vee
Markus Hotz gives last instructions to Jody Scheckter at the wheel of a Horag Super Vee, Silverstone 1973. In the mid-70's Markus Hotz was twice Swiss Formula 2 and hillclimb champion and also competed successfully in the European F2 championship and endurance races.
Since 2003 Markus Hotz took a number of victories and set new records at Albisrennen 2003, Arosa Classic 2006 and the 2007 Steckborn-Eichhölzli Memorial Hillclimb.

In 2008 the March 762 participated in the ernasca Silver Flag Hillclimb in Italy.

After a top ten finish in the 12 Hours of Sebring and 3 podiums in 5 races of the 2008 Le Mans Series, Horag Racing took victory in the Michelin Energy Endurance Challenge (now Michelin Green X Challenge) with their Porsche RS Spyder (Lienhard / Theys / Lammers), being the most energy efficient team of the season.

The team is ready for new challenges in the LMS or other series and is also running the Ligier JS51 Honda CN which had its successful debut in the AvD 100-mile Race in Hockenheim 2009.
