MRA - Riley

The MRA Riley was named for Moothart Racing (Denny Moothart, the team driver/owner) and Bob Riley, the designer. It is the prototype from which the Protofab series of SuperVee cars evolved. There were a total of eight Protofab cars built. This prototype was fabricated by Gary Pratt and raced in the 1979 SCCA Robert Bosch/VW Gold Cup professional series by Dennis Moothart.

The car is full monocoque and is historically significant in that it was the very first all american built ground effects car. The engine is a 1.7 liter VW motor that only has two hours running time since a complete rebuild. The rebuild included all new valves, springs, and guides on the head. New pistons, wrist pins, connecting rods, and the forged crank was turned and balanced. Ignition points have been replaced with a Hall Effect Transducer. Wiring, gaskets, and hoses have all been replaced. The Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection is original and in excellent condition. The Koni shocks were sent to Koni in Kentucky for rebuild. This car is competitive with the Ralt RT5 and is race ready.
